What We Do
Everything you write and share with other people tells them something about you. To make the best impression, your written work should be flawless. We can help turn a good draft into a great written piece.
We will copy edit, line edit, and/or proofread pieces under 10,000 words. For manuscripts over 10,000 words, we offer line editing and proofreading. We can recommend editorial services if you need more in-depth copy editing.
Copy Editing, Line Editing, and Proofreading: $0.01 per word ($15.00 minimum)
In addition to checking for basic errors such as spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes; typos; and misplaced, missing, and extraneous words, we may replace words to avoid repetition, rewrite sentences, or even suggest major structural changes to your piece to make it as clear as possible.
If we return a piece to you with substantial edits, suggestions, and comments, we encourage you to submit the piece again after you have finalized it. We offer a 50% discount on pieces resubmitted for proofreading.
Examples of pieces we can help you perfect include:
- news and magazine articles, press releases, blog posts, and newsletters;
- business letters, pitches, and brochures;
- cover letters and resumes;
- grant proposals (Stephanie only); and
- short stories (under 10,000 words) and essays.
As a general rule, we don’t proof technical or scientific writing, although we have made exceptions.
Manuscript Line Editing: $.02 per word ($300.00 minimum)
Line editing is a critical step in the evolution of your work. We will read your manuscript through several times, correcting basic errors, but also checking for consistency and clarity in your storytelling.
Manuscript Proofreading $0.01 per word ($150.00 minimum)
Proofreading is the final polishing step before your manuscript is ready to be submitted to agents or self-published. We will check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors; misplaced, extraneous, or missing words; and similar errors that can distract readers and make your work seem less than professional.
If you aren’t sure if your manuscript needs line editing or proofreading, you can send us 5 to 10 sample pages to evaluate.
What We Don’t Do
Manuscript Developmental Editing
If you need assistance structuring your story, plotting, developing characters, writing engaging dialog, or other in-depth guidance, we can recommend an excellent editorial service.
We won’t check your facts, figures, or footnotes. That’s your responsibility as the author.
